Boost to Electronics Manufacturing in India: Government Approves 7 Projects under ECMS
The Government of India has approved seven projects under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) with an investment of ₹5,532 crore.

The Government of India has taken a major step towards enhancing the country’s electronics manufacturing capabilities by approving the first tranche of seven projects under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS). Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the approved projects involve a total investment of ₹5,532 crore, with an expected production output of ₹36,559 crore and the creation of over 5,100 direct jobs.

The approved units will manufacture key electronic components such as multi-layer printed circuit boards (PCBs), high-density interconnect (HDI) PCBs, camera modules, copper clad laminates, and polypropylene films. These components are critical for devices such as smartphones, laptops, automobiles, drones, medical instruments, and industrial equipment.

The seven projects will be spread across three states — five in Tamil Nadu, one in Andhra Pradesh, and one in Madhya Pradesh. According to Vaishnaw, the new facilities will meet 100% of domestic demand for copper clad laminates, 20% of PCB requirements, and 15% of camera module needs. Around 60% of the total production will be earmarked for export, boosting India’s global competitiveness in electronics manufacturing.

The ECMS has received an overwhelming response from the industry, with 249 applications and investment commitments worth ₹1.15 lakh crore. These proposals are projected to generate ₹10.34 lakh crore in production and create 1.42 lakh jobs, marking the largest-ever investment commitment in India’s electronics sector.

Through these projects, the government aims to reduce import dependence, generate high-skill employment, and build a trusted supply chain for critical sectors such as defense, telecom, electric vehicles, and renewable energy. Working in synergy with the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), ECMS will help establish a complete value chain — from raw materials to finished electronic products — positioning India as a major global electronics manufacturing hub.
