China-based automaker Chery premium brand Exeed has reportedly patented the ET8 REEV (Range Extended Electric Vehicle) in India. According to reports, it could be the company second range-extender electric vehicle to receive an Indian patent, following the Exeed EX7 REEV. However, the patent does not confirm that the model will be launched in the Indian market.
The Exeed ET8 features a boxy and premium design, with styling elements similar to the company’s fully electric ET9. The ET8 and ET9 were showcased at Exeed Brand Day in China on December 22, 2025. The ET8 also features a distinctive rear-hinged door setup. While the Indian patent does not guarantee a launch, it indicates that the company could be evaluating the model for the Indian market.
The Exeed ET8 REEV is expected to feature a roughly 40kWh LFP battery, paired with a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine and a generator motor. In a range-extender electric vehicle, the petrol engine does not directly drive the wheels. Instead, it works as a generator to charge the battery, while the wheels are driven by an electric motor.
According to reports, the ET8 REEV could offer an electric-only range of around 200km, while its combined range with a full tank and fully charged battery could exceed 1,300km. Exeed existing REEV models in China also offer electric ranges of around 200km and combined ranges exceeding 1,300km, depending on the variant.
Chery is expected to enter the Indian market through a partnership with JSW Motors. Patents and testing activity involving several models from its sub-brands suggest that the company could be preparing a wider portfolio of electric and hybrid vehicles for India. However, the launch timeline for the Exeed ET8 REEV has not yet been confirmed, and its entry into India in 2026 is currently considered unlikely based on available information.
