In a cabinet meeting chaired by Rekha Gupta, the government approved a salary hike for vocational teachers and teachers working under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. According to the government, this decision will not only strengthen the education system but also boost teachers’ morale.
Under the new arrangement, vocational teachers will now receive a monthly salary of INR 38,100. Meanwhile, teachers working under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan will receive INR 35,420 per month. Earlier, vocational teachers were receiving an honorarium of around INR 20,000 to INR 23,000, while Samagra Shiksha teachers were paid nearly INR 21,000 per month. With the new hike, there has been a significant improvement in their earnings.
Thousands of Teachers and Students to Benefit Directly
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta informed that around 1,131 vocational teachers in Delhi are currently providing skill-based education in various schools and training institutions. These teachers train students in fields such as IT, retail, healthcare, electronics, tourism and other employment-oriented sectors so that students can develop practical skills along with academic learning.
In addition, around 784 special training centres are being operated under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan in the capital. These centres provide education to children who could not attend school due to social or financial reasons, dropped out midway or remained away from education for a long time. These centres play an important role in bringing such children back into the mainstream education system.
Recognition for Teachers’ Hard Work and Dedication
According to the government, the decision is not just about increasing salaries but also about recognising the dedication and hard work of teachers who continue to provide education to children under challenging conditions. Many teachers work closely with children from remote and economically weaker sections of society and help reconnect them with the education system.
The Chief Minister said that stronger financial security would enable teachers to work with greater enthusiasm and confidence. This is also expected to improve the quality of education in schools and training centres.
Government Focus on Strengthening the Education System
The Delhi Government stated that its primary objective is to make the education system in the capital more inclusive, modern and accessible. The government is continuously increasing investment in school infrastructure, digital education, skill development and teacher training programmes.
Education experts believe that when teachers receive better salaries and stable financial security, their performance and commitment towards students also improve. This creates a better learning environment, provides students with quality education and strengthens academic guidance.
The government aims to ensure that no child in Delhi remains deprived of education. With this vision, special focus is being given to bringing dropout students back into schools, promoting skill-based education and improving facilities for teachers. According to education experts, this decision could play a significant role in strengthening Delhi’s school education system in the coming years.
