The company focuses on helping people practise spoken English through AI-based conversations.

Edtech startup SpeakX, which is working to improve English-speaking skills and communication confidence in India, has onboarded cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni. According to the company’s Founder and CEO Arpit Mittal, Dhoni will take on the role of strategic investor as well as brand ambassador at SpeakX. The partnership comes at a time when edtech companies are combining traditional language-learning methods with artificial intelligence to create more personalised and interactive learning experiences.

SpeakX said that a large number of people in India can read and write English, but often lack confidence when speaking the language in real-life situations. The company aims to bridge this gap through AI-based conversations and a few minutes of daily practice. Its objective is to help learners develop the confidence to use English in everyday and professional situations, rather than learning it only as a subject.

Focus on English Speaking Practice Through AI

SpeakX’s platform uses generative AI technology to provide users with English-speaking practice through real-life conversation-like situations. According to the company, each learner gets the experience of having a dedicated AI teacher with whom they can interact in real time and improve their English skills.

The company’s model is designed for people who need to speak English during meetings, school interactions, interviews, customer service and everyday conversations. SpeakX claims that regular practice helps users learn from their mistakes and gradually build confidence while speaking English.

Over 10 Million Downloads, Reaching Millions of Learners

According to SpeakX, its app has been downloaded more than 10 million times and has served millions of learners in four years. The company follows a freemium model and has around 2 lakh active paid subscribers on its platform.

SpeakX has also raised institutional funding to support its expansion. The company has received a total investment of USD 10 million from Elevation Capital, IQ and Good Water Capital. According to the company, these funds are being used to strengthen its technology, develop its products and expand its reach among English learners in India.

MS Dhoni’s Role Goes Beyond Branding

SpeakX Founder and CEO Arpit Mittal said that Mahendra Singh Dhoni strongly connects with SpeakX’s mission. According to him, Dhoni decided to support the company after understanding its business model and objectives.

The company believes Dhoni’s role will go beyond being a brand ambassador. According to SpeakX, he will be part of the platform’s learning mission and connect with students and learners who practise, make mistakes, improve and eventually gain confidence in speaking English.

Dhoni’s association is expected to help SpeakX expand its reach among young people and new learners across the country. The company is positioning English learning not only as an academic requirement but also as an important skill for employment, career growth and personal development.

Growing Market for AI-Based Language Learning in India

With the expansion of digital learning and AI-based education in India, language-learning platforms are also changing their models. Growing demand for spoken English, communication and employment-related skills is encouraging edtech companies to focus more on personalised learning experiences.

SpeakX is attempting to combine this trend with generative AI and conversation-based practice. The company aims to take its English-learning and speaking experience to more Indians, helping reduce language barriers and giving learners an opportunity to practise according to their individual needs.

With Dhoni’s investment and brand partnership, SpeakX is now looking to take its AI-based English-learning model to a larger audience and add more users to its platform.
