Higher Education Institutions Must Update with Time for Development: Appeal by the Punjab Governor
Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria urged higher education institutions to adapt to rapidly changing global transformations and move forward with time.


Addressing the national conference on “Higher Education Policy: Navigating Global Challenges and National Priorities” at Khalsa University Amritsar, the Governor said that while adopting change, institutions must remain rooted in their core values and ethics.

Balancing Global Developments and National Priorities is Essential 

Governor Gulab Chand Kataria emphasized that aligning global developments with national priorities is extremely important. He stated that higher education must play a crucial role in promoting inclusive growth, social equity and employment generation so that every section of society benefits.

He also highlighted the growing role of digital technologies, artificial intelligence and online education platforms. He noted that while these are making education more accessible, challenges like digital inequality and lack of resources in rural areas must also be addressed.

Focus on New Education Policy and Flexible Learning 

Praising the university, Gulab Chand Kataria said that such events promote new ideas and dialogue in the education sector. The conference discussed the current state of higher education and the importance of multidisciplinary and flexible learning, as envisioned in the National Education Policy 2020, along with maintaining academic quality and standards.

Amol M Andhare, Joint Secretary of UGC, stated that institutions that adapt to the changing needs of society and the nation should be encouraged and strengthened.

Experts from India and Abroad Deliberate 

The conference witnessed participation from several experts, academicians and policymakers from India and abroad, who discussed the evolving landscape of higher education, emerging challenges and opportunities.

On this occasion, the university’s pro-chancellor Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, vice-chancellor Mehal Singh and registrar Khushvinder Kumar welcomed the dignitaries.

A Significant Step Towards Reform in Higher Education

Overall, the conference proved to be an important step towards making higher education globally competitive. It emphasized adopting new technologies such as digital learning, artificial intelligence and online education platforms to make education more accessible and effective.
