Maharashtra Government fast-tracks its USD 11 billion AI Innovation City with Tata Group near Navi Mumbai International Airport.

The Maharashtra Government is firming up a time-bound roadmap to expedite development of the Innovation City near Navi Mumbai International Airport, being built in partnership with the Tata Group. Kaustubh Dhavse, Chief Advisor (Investments & Strategy) to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, announced this at the 6th Real Estate & Infrastructure Investors’ Summit (REIIS) 2026, organised by NAREDCO Maharashtra in Mumbai.

The Maharashtra Government and Tata Group had earlier announced an $11 billion investment to build India’s first AI Innovation City, spread across 300 acres near the airport. The project envisages large-scale AI data centres, high-performance computing, semiconductors and Global Capability Centres.

Maharashtra currently accounts for about 66 per cent of India’s data-centre capacity. The state’s broader AI agenda includes six Centres of Excellence and AI Innovation Regions, alongside new universities and healthcare infrastructure to build the talent base for AI and advanced industries.

“The infrastructure that Maharashtra has created gives us an opportunity to take Mumbai, Maharashtra and India to the next level. We now have the momentum; the task is to execute at scale,” said Dhavse.

REIIS 2026 focused on alternative capital, cross-border investment, urban redevelopment, infrastructure finance, AI and PropTech, with stakeholders calling for coordinated investment and policy stability to support India’s 2047 economic goals.
