Nexon Geochem Private Limited has completed the first phase of technical evaluation and benchmarking of Indian-origin raw materials with its Russian technology partner Giredmet. The testing was conducted for the production of high-performance Nd-Fe-B permanent magnets.
According to the company, the successful testing of the first batch will allow Nexon Geochem to move towards pilot production, technical qualification and product validation with domestic customers.
Nexon Geochem is developing an integrated domestic manufacturing chain to produce permanent magnets from Indian-origin raw materials. The company aims to manufacture high-performance permanent magnets across the N35 to N52 grade range in India.
As part of the technical evaluation, Nexon Geochem supplied domestically sourced Nd-Pr oxide, iron and ferroboron to Giredmet’s facility in Russia. The testing included the conversion of Nd-Pr oxide into Nd-Pr metal.
The technical assessment also examined the chemical composition and impurity levels of the raw materials. Critical magnetic performance parameters were benchmarked to assess the quality and technical suitability of Indian-origin materials for permanent magnet manufacturing.
Praveen Choudhary, Founder, Nexon Geochem, said the successful testing is an important milestone for the company. He added that the process has technically validated the pathway for integrating Indian-origin raw materials with the required technology platform.
The company will now focus on taking the validated process towards pilot production and customer applications in India, supporting the development of a domestic supply chain for high-performance permanent magnets.
