Odisha Extends Electric Vehicle Policy 2021 Till December 2026
The extension aims to promote green mobility and EV adoption, with the policy offering purchase subsidies, tax exemptions and manufacturing incentives.

The Odisha government has extended the validity of the Odisha Electric Vehicle Policy, 2021 until December 31, 2026, to promote green mobility and sustainable transportation. The Commerce and Transport Department issued an official notification in this regard on Saturday.

The decision has been taken as part of the state government’s commitment to reduce carbon emissions and encourage the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs). Under the policy, the government provides 100% exemption from road tax and registration fees on EVs, along with purchase subsidies. It also offers various incentives to promote the manufacturing of EVs and their components in the state.

Under the policy, buyers of electric two-wheelers are eligible for a subsidy of up to 15% of the vehicle cost, capped at 5,000, or 5,000 per kWh, subject to a maximum subsidy of 20,000. For electric three-wheelers, the subsidy is 15% of the vehicle cost, capped at ₹10,000, or a flat subsidy of 30,000.

For electric four-wheelers, the policy provides a subsidy of up to 15% of the vehicle cost, capped at ₹50,000, or 10,000 per kWh, subject to a maximum of 1.5 lakh. Passenger electric buses are eligible for an incentive of 10% of the vehicle cost, ranging from 4 lakh to ₹20 lakh depending on specifications. Goods carriers are eligible for a subsidy of ₹30,000 for the initial units.

Besides purchase incentives, the Odisha Electric Vehicle Policy, 2021 also provides manufacturing incentives, scrapping incentives, interest subvention on loans, and exemptions from road tax and registration fees. The extension of the policy is expected to support EV adoption, manufacturing and the development of green mobility in the state.
