Ola Electric, which had earlier paused its electric car plans to focus on expanding its electric scooter lineup, is now gearing up once again to enter the passenger EV market. The company recently filed a patent for a compact electric car, reaffirming its intent to re-enter the four-wheeler (E4W) category.
The move aligns with Ola Sankalp 2025 roadmap, where the company introduced its new Gen 4 modular platform. This flexible architecture is designed to support a variety of vehicles, including scooters, three-wheelers, and compact cars, allowing Ola to scale efficiently across multiple EV segments.
As per the patent, the upcoming Ola car is expected to be a small five-door hatchback positioned against rivals such as the MG Comet EV, Tata Tiago EV, and VinFast Minio Green (which has been patented in India). The design emphasizes urban practicality, affordability, and a futuristic look consistent with Ola’s brand identity.
The car is likely to feature Ola’s indigenously developed 4680 series battery cells, unveiled during the Sankalp 2025 event. Expected to launch within the next few years, the new compact EV will mark Ola’s evolution into a full-range electric vehicle manufacturer — spanning two-, three-, and four-wheeler segments.
