OMC Power has announced its entry into electric vehicle battery repurposing, aiming to provide energy storage solutions for residential and commercial applications. According to co-founder and CEO Rohit Chandra, the initiative will support uninterrupted power supply (UPS) systems and hybrid rooftop solar installations using second-life EV batteries.
Under the initiative, Honda Motor Co. Ltd will supply batteries retired after three years of vehicle use. Honda, which acquired a minority stake in OMC Power in October 2025, will provide used batteries for the next seven years. The systems will be assembled at the company’s facility in Manesar, where the batteries will be integrated into energy storage solutions.
Chandra said EV battery reuse is an emerging sector in India and offers a practical solution to concerns over battery life after vehicle use. The company has already completed pilot projects, including a solar rooftop installation with battery backup at a school in Hardoi.
OMC Power is also investing ₹4,000 crore to build a 1 GWp renewable energy portfolio by 2030, with 600 MWp expected from rooftop solar projects, compared with its current capacity of 75 MWp.
