Porsche will officially introduce its new Cayenne Electric in India on September 30. The electric SUV was already launched in the Indian market last year, with prices starting at Rs 1.76 crore (ex-showroom). In India, it will be offered in two variants – Cayenne Electric and Cayenne Turbo Electric.
The Cayenne Electric will sit at the top of Porsche’s growing electric vehicle portfolio in India. It will compete with luxury electric SUVs such as the BMW iX, Audi Q8 e-tron and Lotus Eletre.
Both variants are equipped with a 113kWh battery pack and dual electric motors that drive all four wheels. The standard Cayenne Electric produces 408hp and 835Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 100kph in 4.8 seconds and has a top speed of 230kph. Porsche claims a range of up to 642km on a single charge.
The range-topping Cayenne Turbo Electric develops 1,156hp and 1,150Nm of torque. It can sprint from 0 to 100kph in just 2.5 seconds and has a top speed of 260kph. The model offers a claimed range of up to 623km.
Both variants come equipped with adaptive air suspension as standard, while rear-axle steering is available as an option.
According to Porsche, the Cayenne Electric can recover energy through regenerative braking at up to 600kW, depending on factors such as vehicle speed, battery temperature and state of charge. The company also claims that the electric motors can handle up to 97 percent of the SUV’s braking. Additionally, the Cayenne Electric is the first Porsche model to offer an optional 11kW wireless charging system.
The Cayenne Electric retains the familiar proportions and silhouette of the combustion-powered Cayenne, but gets a redesigned front end. The conventional grille has been closed off, while air vents on either side of the bumper help cool the battery and electrical components. Active aerodynamic vents are also integrated into the lower sections of the bumpers.
The SUV features gloss-black lower cladding and alloy wheels ranging from 20 to 22 inches. At the rear, it gets a full-width LED light bar with illuminated Porsche lettering. The Turbo Electric features a body-coloured skid plate, while the standard model gets a black finish.
Measuring 4,985mm in length, the electric Cayenne is 55mm longer than its ICE counterpart. It has a 3,023mm wheelbase, 1,980mm width and 1,674mm height. The SUV offers a 90-litre frunk and a 781-litre boot, which can be expanded to 1,588 litres with the rear seats folded.
Inside, the Cayenne Electric gets a digital driver’s display and a 14.5-inch curved infotainment touchscreen. According to Porsche, it will be the first Porsche model in India to feature this setup. Buyers can also opt for a 14.9-inch passenger display and an augmented-reality head-up display.
Other features include eight-way electrically adjustable front seats, optional 18-way seat adjustment, four-zone automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof and wireless phone charging. A 14-speaker Bose sound system is offered as standard, while customers can upgrade to a 20-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
The Porsche Cayenne Electric is priced from Rs 1.76 crore (ex-showroom) in India, while the Cayenne Turbo Electric will be positioned higher in the lineup. With its combination of high performance, long range and premium technology, the Cayenne Electric is set to strengthen Porsche’s presence in India’s luxury electric SUV segment.
