Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited (TMPV), its subsidiary Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited (TPEM), and Stellantis India have expanded their strategic partnership by signing a definitive agreement to collaborate on advanced vehicle technologies and product development. The agreement builds on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the companies in February 2026.
Under the agreement, TMPV will provide Stellantis access to its advanced product technologies and vehicle architectures. Stellantis will further develop these technologies through its product development and engineering capabilities in India. The collaboration aims to develop vehicles tailored to the requirements of more than 50 global markets, taking into account the needs of customers, regulatory frameworks, and operational requirements across different countries.
The vehicles developed under the partnership will be manufactured at the plant of Fiat India Automobiles Private Limited (FIAPL), a 50:50 joint venture between Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Stellantis. The companies expect to leverage India's competitive engineering capabilities and manufacturing strength to develop vehicles for international markets and expand exports.
Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, said the partnership between the two companies has been built on mutual trust and complementary capabilities over more than two decades. He added that the agreement would strengthen collaboration in advanced vehicle technologies and architectures, creating opportunities to deliver vehicles developed and manufactured in India to customers in domestic and international markets.
Tianshu Xin, Chief Operating Officer for the Asia-Pacific region at Stellantis, said combining Tata Motors' strong capabilities in the Indian market with Stellantis' global product development expertise would help the companies develop competitive vehicles. Stellantis has a portfolio of 14 major automotive brands and operates across Europe, North America, South America, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia-Pacific.
The expanded partnership is expected to strengthen India's position as a global hub for vehicle engineering, development, and manufacturing while supporting the companies' efforts to serve international markets.
