Tesla has launched the six-seater Model Y L in India at 61.99 lakh, featuring an extended wheelbase and a range of up to 681 km. The new variant targets rising demand for larger, premium electric SUVs in the Indian market despite high import costs.

Tesla has expanded its electric SUV lineup in India with the launch of a new six-seater variant of the Tesla Model Y, called the Model Y L. The new variant is priced at ₹61.99 lakh (ex-showroom), according to the company’s website.

The Model Y L is positioned between the existing standard and long-range variants, reflecting a broader shift in the Indian market where buyers are increasingly preferring larger vehicles with enhanced comfort and in-cabin features. Tesla entered India less than a year ago with the imported Model Y, but pricing remains on the higher side due to import duties of up to 100%, keeping it within a niche premium segment.

The Model Y L offers a claimed driving range of up to 681 km on the WLTP cycle. In terms of dimensions, it measures 4,976 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,668 mm in height—making it around 180 mm longer and 44 mm taller than the standard version. Its wheelbase has been extended by 150 mm to 3,040 mm, enabling the addition of a third row.

The SUV features a 2+2+2 seating configuration. The second row comes equipped with a retractable armrest, along with power folding and heating functions, while the third row includes a 50:50 split, USB Type-C ports, cupholders, and C-pillar-mounted air-conditioning vents.

With the rear seats folded, the Model Y L offers up to 2,539 litres of cargo space. Both the second and third rows can be folded using controls in the cargo area. Additionally, the vehicle includes a 116-litre front trunk (frunk).

Overall, with the introduction of the Model Y L, Tesla aims to tap into the growing demand for larger, premium electric vehicles in India.
