As part of this decision, approval has been granted for the establishment of a private ‘Metro University’ in Greater Noida, which is considered a significant step towards expanding higher education in the state.
Decision Taken Under the Provisions of the Uttar Pradesh Private Universities Act, 2019
State Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay stated that this decision has been taken under the provisions of the Uttar Pradesh Private Universities Act, 2019. He explained that the Act ensures proper arrangements for the establishment, regulation and operation of private universities.
Modern Campus to Be Built on 26.1 Acres of Land
He further informed that Sunhill Healthcare Private Limited, Noida, had proposed to establish ‘Metro University’ on 26.1 acres of land allotted by the Greater Noida Authority. After legal and technical evaluation of the proposal, it has been approved. The university campus will be equipped with modern facilities, smart classrooms, research centers and advanced digital infrastructure.
Operational Approval Through Ordinance 2026
To implement this project, amendments will be made to the schedule of the Uttar Pradesh Private Universities Act, 2019. Under this, the ‘Uttar Pradesh Private Universities (Amendment) Ordinance, 2026’ will be promulgated and the sponsoring institution will be granted an authorization letter to operate the university.
Students to Benefit from Modern and Job-Oriented Education
With the establishment of this university, students in the state will gain access to modern and job-oriented education, including fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Management and other professional courses. This will help enhance students’ skills and improve their employment opportunities.
The government aims to make Uttar Pradesh a major education hub. The opening of new universities will boost private investment, create local employment opportunities and accelerate regional development. Greater Noida is expected to emerge as a prominent education and knowledge hub.
Government’s Priority: Quality, Expansion & Affordable Education
The Higher Education Minister stated that the Yogi government is continuously working towards improving quality, expanding educational institutions and providing affordable education to students. The focus is on ensuring that better education reaches every section of society.
In addition, the cabinet approved another significant decision to increase the honorarium of Shiksha Mitras and part-time instructors. This decision has been taken in view of their long-standing demands and will directly benefit lakhs of education workers.
According to the cabinet, the monthly honorarium of Shiksha Mitras, which was fixed at ₹10,000 in 2017, has now been increased to ₹18,000. This hike will strengthen their financial condition and motivate them to contribute more effectively to the education system.
