The fresh capital will be used to strengthen the company's AI infrastructure, expand curriculum coverage and accelerate its presence across India and international markets. The startup aims to provide students with a more accurate, personalised and exam-focused learning experience.
Sortmyprep, which operates under ZKAP Edtech Service Private Limited, is an AI-powered education platform. At present, it primarily serves students following international school curricula. Its flagship AI tutor, 'Sorty,' is a board-aligned conversational learning assistant that offers 24x7 personalised doubt-solving, curriculum-specific guidance and exam preparation support. The platform is designed to improve students' learning outcomes and academic performance.
According to the company, Sortmyprep currently serves students in more than 15 countries. It has also built a proprietary academic dataset comprising over one million human-generated learning data points, enabling its AI platform to deliver more accurate, curriculum-aligned learning support.
Indian and Global Angel Investors Back the Startup
The pre-seed funding round attracted participation from several prominent business leaders and entrepreneurs, including Boman Irani, Chairman of Rustomjee Group and Rustomjee International School; Sameer Mehta, Co-founder of boAt; Subrat Pani, Co-founder of OneAssist; Rohini Kasturi, CEO of HG Insights; and Ranjit Pawar, APAC Head at the London Stock Exchange Group.
The investment follows the company's early institutional backing from PIEDS, BITS Pilani. Investors believe that with the growing demand for AI-powered education, Sortmyprep is well-positioned to scale rapidly across both Indian and international markets.
Focus on Strengthening AI Platform and Expanding Curriculum Coverage
The company said the fresh funding will be used to strengthen its vertical AI platform, expand curriculum coverage, and increase its presence across India and overseas.
Sortmyprep was founded by Ananya, Aryaman, and Naman. According to the founders, the platform was created to address one of education's biggest challenges helping students convert learning into better exam performance. They believe that AI-driven personalised guidance can help students prepare more effectively and achieve improved academic outcomes.
The company's AI platform combines expert-validated academic content with its proprietary AI architecture to deliver accurate, curriculum-aligned learning support tailored to different education boards.
Strong Organic Growth Without Paid Marketing
Sortmyprep has revealed that more than 71% of its users have been acquired through referrals and word-of-mouth, without relying on paid marketing campaigns. Investors consider this strong organic growth to be one of the company's biggest strengths.
boAt Co-founder Sameer Mehta said the company's execution and rapid customer adoption stood out during the investment process. According to him, building such strong organic growth without paid acquisition reflects both the quality of the product and genuine market demand.
Boman Irani said that from a school's perspective, the platform addresses a real need for students. He noted that students require learning support that is accurate, curriculum-specific and available whenever they need it, and that Sortmyprep has successfully built a solution that students actively recommend to one another.
Supported by Nvidia, OpenAI and Google for Startups
Apart from its investors, Sortmyprep is supported through programmes and partnerships with Nvidia, OpenAI, Google for Startups, BITS Pilani and Ashoka University. The company believes that these collaborations are helping strengthen its AI capabilities and accelerate product innovation.
Sachin Arya, Head of PIEDS, BITS Pilani, said that Sortmyprep has developed a specialised AI platform focused on 100% curriculum accuracy and improved student outcomes. According to him, the combination of proprietary AI technology and expert-validated academic content provides a strong foundation for expansion across both Indian and international education systems.
Platform Set to Expand into CBSE and ICSE
Currently, Sortmyprep primarily serves students studying under international curricula such as IB and IGCSE. The company now plans to expand its AI platform to support CBSE, ICSE and other major national and global education boards.
The company said its AI platform has been designed to support competency-based learning. It aims to help students build a stronger understanding of concepts, improve exam readiness and achieve better academic performance through personalised learning support.
Strengthening the Future of AI-Powered Education
With the new funding, Sortmyprep plans to strengthen its presence across India and global markets while expanding into additional education boards. The company also intends to continue enhancing its AI platform to deliver more personalised, curriculum-aligned and outcome-driven learning experiences for students. Its long-term vision is to use AI to improve learning quality and help students translate classroom learning into stronger examination performance.
