Early-stage venture capital firm Capital-A has announced the first close of its second fund at INR 160 crore, as it aims to invest in startups across sectors such as aerospace, robotics, energy transition and industrial hardware.

The firm said the fund is targeting a base corpus of INR 300 crore, along with a greenshoe option of INR 100 crore. The fund is largely anchored by its General Partner, signalling internal commitment and has drawn participation from a predominantly domestic pool of investors.

These include family offices, high net-worth individuals, industrialists and corporate leaders such as the Chamaria Group, Steel House Family Office, Avyay Jhunjhunwala, MP Family Office (Dubai), Siddharth Bafna of Lodha & Co., Srikar Reddy of Sonata Software, Sekhar Boddu, former Director of Technology at Amazon and the family office of Sri Vijayalakshmi Agarbathi Works, among others. Domestic institutional participation has also come from the Anand Rathi Group.

Capital-A has already begun deploying capital from the new fund. It has completed seven investments so far, with three more deals in advanced stages. The firm has backed startups including Manastu Space, Agrileaf, Misochain and CraftifAI.

With its second fund, Capital-A plans to invest in 15 to 18 companies, focusing on an execution-drivenapproach that involves working closely with founders on operations and scaling.

The firm is also looking at sectors such as aerospace components, where India currently depends heavily on imports. In addition, it is exploring opportunities in areas like shop floor digitisation, particularly for micro, small and medium enterprises.

According to the Bengaluru-based firm, new-age startups are emerging with a different structure, beginning in a modular manner by leveraging contract manufacturing, testing products early and scaling with integrated engineering and software capabilities.
