In a significant step towards strengthening skill development and industry-oriented technical education in India, the CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory (CSIR-NCL), Pune has officially inaugurated its newly renovated, state-of-the-art Skill Development Centre. The modern facility aims to provide students, researchers, academicians and industry professionals with hands-on training on the latest technologies, enabling them to develop skills aligned with the evolving needs of industries.
The new Skill Development Centre was inaugurated by Dr. Ashish Lele, Director of CSIR-NCL. The event was attended by Dr. Vinay Kumar, Nodal Scientist from CSIR-HRDC, Ghaziabad, under the CSIR-Integrated Skill Initiative (CSIR-ISI), who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Representatives from Envalior also participated in the ceremony. The modernization of the facility was supported by Envalior through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. Senior officials including Dr. Rajesh Gonnade, Skill Nodal Officer, and Mrs. Kanika Goyal, Controller of Administration, were also present.
A Major Boost to National Skill Development
The Skill Development Programme, being implemented under the CSIR-Integrated Skill Initiative (CSIR-ISI), is an important step towards strengthening scientific and technical skills across the country. Its primary objective is to develop a highly skilled workforce capable of meeting the current and future requirements of industries in the laboratory's core areas of expertise.
The programme at CSIR-NCL will not only provide theoretical knowledge but also offer practical training in advanced laboratories to students, researchers and industry professionals. The newly established Skill Development Centre has been designed as a fully integrated facility where all skill development and technical training activities at CSIR-NCL can be conducted from a single location. The centre is equipped with several state-of-the-art facilities, including smart classrooms with interactive digital displays, a digital podium, a dedicated computer laboratory, an advanced digital conference room, analytical laboratories and a centralized Skill Development Programme (SDP) office. These modern facilities will allow participants to learn, experiment and gain practical exposure using the latest technologies.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Dr. Ashish Lele, Director of CSIR-NCL, said that the new Skill Development Centre will provide students and researchers with hands-on experience in operating advanced scientific instruments.
He highlighted that access to modern laboratories and cutting-edge technological resources will significantly enhance participants' industrial competencies, making them better prepared for employment. He further noted that the centre will also promote scientific research, innovation and the development of emerging technologies.

Chief Guest Dr. Vinay Kumar appreciated the newly developed facility, stating that it closely aligns with the national vision of the CSIR-Integrated Skill Initiative.
