Rekha Gupta has urged automobile dealers to take a more proactive role in promoting electric vehicles (EVs), highlighting their importance in driving Delhi’s transition towards clean mobility. She emphasized that dealers act as a crucial link between government policies and consumer decisions.
Speaking at the conference organized by Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), Gupta encouraged dealers to actively motivate customers to shift towards clean-energy vehicles. She also indicated that Delhi’s EV policy may gradually move from incentives to mandatory adoption in the coming years.
The current EV policy includes subsidies, tax benefits, and registration fee exemptions to boost adoption. However, the Chief Minister signaled that stricter regulations could be introduced by 2027–2028 to curb pollution levels in the capital.
Highlighting infrastructure challenges, Gupta stressed the need for a faster expansion of EV charging stations, questioning whether the proposed 150 stations would be sufficient. She also raised concerns about future battery waste, stating that the government is working on EV waste management systems.
Alongside EV adoption, the Delhi government is investing in public transport and last-mile connectivity, including a ₹10,000 crore metro expansion plan and issuing 1,000 free permits for women to operate electric autos.
