Starting with NEET, students to receive personalized AI guidance; fresh funding to strengthen technology, product development and student outreach

The demand for Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered learning solutions is growing rapidly in India’s education sector. In line with this trend, Bengaluru-based edtech startup Lytmus AI has raised ₹5 crore in a pre-seed funding round led by Boundless Ventures. The company aims to expand its AI-driven mentorship platform, beginning with students preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).

According to the company, the newly raised capital will be used to strengthen its AI capabilities, accelerate product development and expand its reach among students. Lytmus AI believes that simply providing study content is no longer enough; students also need continuous guidance and personalized support throughout their learning journey.

AI Mentor to Provide Teacher-Like Personalized Guidance

Lytmus AI was founded in 2024 by Ajit Kumar and Praveen, both alumni of IIT Bombay. The company is developing AI mentors designed to replicate the guidance traditionally provided by teachers during exam preparation.

The startup says its AI platform goes beyond answering questions. It understands how students learn, identifies their weaknesses, tracks their progress and recommends the most effective next steps to improve performance.

Ajit Kumar, Co-founder and CEO of Lytmus AI, said, “Over the last decade, edtech has solved the problem of access to content. However, in scaling education, student-teacher interaction was often lost and learning outcomes did not improve accordingly. We founded Lytmus AI to bridge this gap. Our goal is not to provide more content, but to offer mentorship that understands every student individually and helps them achieve better results.”

He added that millions of students in India prepare for competitive examinations, but most lack access to personalized guidance and continuous mentorship. The company’s AI mentor is designed to address this challenge.

How Does the Lytmus AI Platform Work?

According to the company, its platform operates on two key layers. The first is an AI infrastructure layer trained on the teaching patterns of experienced educators and subject-matter experts. The second is an application layer that tracks each student’s study behavior, mistakes, learning history, performance and progress over time.

By combining these technologies, the AI mentor can create a personalized learning experience for every student. It identifies recurring mistakes, analyzes learning gaps and recommends future study actions based on individual performance.

Education experts believe that such technology can significantly improve learning efficiency and exam readiness, especially for highly competitive examinations where personalized support is often limited.

Special Focus on NEET Preparation

At present, the company is focusing on applying its AI mentorship model to NEET preparation. Every year, more than two million students appear for the medical entrance examination. However, a large number of aspirants go through the preparation process without access to experienced mentors or personalized academic guidance.

Natasha Malpani, Founder and General Partner at Boundless Ventures, said, “What Lytmus AI has built is both technically ambitious and commercially strong. The company has successfully combined memory and context architecture with the expertise of teachers who have earned students’ trust. In a market where millions of students prepare for NEET every year, a solution that can deliver personalized mentorship at scale has tremendous potential.”

She further noted that the future of AI in education lies not merely in content delivery, but in understanding individual learners and guiding them according to their specific needs.

More Than 16,000 Students Have Already Used the Platform

According to the company, more than 16,000 students have used the platform over the past 90 days. Early data suggests that students guided by AI mentors completed daily practice sessions up to three times more frequently than those without such support.

Lytmus AI claims that personalized recommendations, continuous feedback and progress monitoring have improved both student engagement and learning outcomes. These results indicate that AI-powered mentorship could make exam preparation more structured, focused and effective.

Growing Influence of AI in Education

Education experts believe that AI will become an increasingly important part of teaching and learning in the coming years. Areas such as personalized learning, identification of learning gaps, performance analytics and data-driven academic guidance are expected to benefit significantly from AI-powered solutions.

Lytmus AI’s latest funding and expanding student base are seen as important milestones in this evolving landscape. The company is now working to further strengthen its AI mentorship platform and scale its impact.

If successful, the model could eventually expand beyond NEET to support students preparing for other competitive examinations such as JEE, CUET and various national-level entrance tests.

Experts believe that solutions combining AI technology with the principles of personalized teaching have the potential to redefine competitive exam preparation in India, making quality guidance more accessible to millions of students across the country.
