EKA Mobility has begun deploying electric buses for the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) in Odisha, introducing its EKA 9M model to the state’s public transport fleet. The deployment, carried out in partnership with Travel Time Mobility Pvt. Ltd., marks a significant step in Odisha’s ongoing investment in electric public transport infrastructure.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi virtually flagged off the buses, highlighting the state’s commitment to sustainable and zero-emission urban mobility. The project will see a total of 100 EKA electric buses operating across the capital region, enhancing CRUT’s public transport capacity while transitioning to cleaner, emission-free vehicles.
The EKA 9M is a 9-meter electric bus with seating for 35 passengers, featuring wheelchair accessibility and powered by a 213 kW motor paired with a 200 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery system. Rohit Srivastava, Business Head and Chief Growth Officer at EKA Mobility, stated that the deployment reflects progress toward sustainable urban mobility solutions in India, aiming to reduce carbon emissions while improving passenger experience.
Vivek Kalkar, Director at Travel Time Mobility Pvt. Ltd., described the deployment as a key step in building clean mobility infrastructure in Odisha. The company is managing the operational aspects of the bus deployment for CRUT.
EKA Mobility, operating as Pinnacle Mobility Solutions Pvt. Ltd., has equity partnerships with Mitsui & Co., Ltd. of Japan and VDL Groep of the Netherlands. The company specializes in commercial electric mobility solutions and manufactures electric buses for both urban and rural transport applications across India.
This deployment in Odisha is part of EKA Mobility’s ongoing expansion across Indian states, supporting the country’s broader transition toward electric public transport systems and sustainable urban mobility.
