VinFast Crosses 1,000 EV Sales in India in Just Four Months
Vietnamese EV maker VinFast has crossed 1,000 electric car sales in India within four months of entering the market, signaling strong early traction.

Vietnamese electric vehicle maker VinFast has strengthened its India operations by crossing the milestone of 1,000 cumulative electric car sales within just four months of market entry. The achievement comes as the company rapidly expands its sales and service network across the country while simultaneously strengthening its charging infrastructure.

The start of 2026 has been encouraging for VinFast, with the company already selling over 200 electric cars so far this year. With this momentum, VinFast has emerged as the fourth major player in India’s electric car market, after Tata Motors, JSW MG Motor and Mahindra Electric. In 2025, the company sold around 830 electric cars over a three-month period.

India’s electric car market has witnessed strong growth over the past two years, with annual sales rising from 82,286 units in 2023 to 1.76 lakh units in 2025. Despite growing competition, sales are increasingly concentrated among a few leading manufacturers.

VinFast entered the Indian market in September 2025 with the launch of the VF6 compact electric SUV and the VF7 mid-size electric SUV. While overall volumes remain modest, industry analysts note that new entrants are beginning to record measurable sales and establish a foothold in the competitive landscape.

According to experts, VinFast’s early traction can be attributed to its market entry strategy, which includes local manufacturing, rapid expansion of sales and service infrastructure, and positioning its products in the right price band. The VF6 and VF7 are priced between ₹16 lakh and ₹25 lakh, a segment that has emerged as the most active in India’s electric passenger vehicle market.

The company operates an EV assembly plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, with an initial annual capacity of 50,000 vehicles, scalable up to 150,000 units. As VinFast’s third manufacturing facility globally, the plant helps reduce costs, support competitive pricing and position India as both a key domestic market and a potential export hub.

Within four months of entering the Indian market, VinFast has established over 25 dealerships and more than 80 service centres across multiple cities. This rapid network rollout is faster than that of many recent EV entrants, highlighting the company’s strong execution capabilities and readiness in the Indian market.
