EV Sales Hit Record High in October, Crossing 2.34 Lakh Units
India’s electric vehicle industry achieved a new milestone in October with total registrations reaching 2.34 lakh units - the highest monthly figure ever. Strong growth was recorded across all segments, with Tata Motors and Bajaj Auto leading the charts.

October proved to be a remarkable month for India’s electric vehicle (EV) industry, with total registrations touching a record 2.34 lakh units, the highest monthly figure to date. Every segment of battery-powered vehicles posted positive growth, while electric two-wheeler sales crossed the one-million-unit mark for the calendar year, with two months still remaining.

This surge came despite earlier concerns about a slowdown in EV volumes due to magnet supply challenges and the recent GST rate cut on ICE vehicles, which reduced the price gap between the two categories. However, the festive season demand reignited strong retail momentum.

The electric two-wheeler (E2W) segment achieved record sales of 1.44 lakh units in October — up 3% year-on-year and 37% month-on-month. Bajaj Auto led the segment with 31,207 units (up from 19,689 units in September), followed by TVS Motor (29,494 units), Ather Energy (28,082 units), and Ola Electric (16,034 units). Hero MotoCorp and Greaves Electric Mobility also posted their highest monthly sales of the year with 15,947 units and 7,629 units, respectively.

The electric passenger vehicle (e-car and e-SUV) segment also witnessed a robust rise, with 17,874 units registered — up from 11,428 units in October 2024 and 16,346 units in September 2025. Tata Motors retained its leadership with 7,150 units, followed by JSW MG Motor (4,525 units), Mahindra (3,875 units), and Vietnamese entrant VinFast, which sold 131 EVs in its first month in India.

In the electric three-wheeler (excluding e-rickshaws) category, registrations climbed to 70,604 units, up from 61,044 in September and 67,173 in October last year.

Overall, October set a new benchmark for India’s EV industry, showcasing the sector’s accelerating momentum and highlighting that the country’s electric mobility revolution is well underway.
