Sundar Pichai shared information about Google’s recent AI initiatives on his official X account. He said the company is working to use AI not only for technological development but also to address real-world challenges. Education and learning are among the key areas where AI can help develop personalised learning and improve the learning experience for students and teachers.
Google’s Focus on AI in Learning and Education
According to Google, the objective of AI-based tools is not only to provide answers to students but also to help them understand subjects better. The company’s learning model includes features such as Guided Learning, which helps students understand a subject step by step.
Google said AI in education should be used to support teachers rather than replace them and to make the learning process more effective. This can provide students with new opportunities to study according to their individual needs and learning pace.
AI Education and Teacher Training in India
In India, Google is also working on several initiatives to promote AI-based education and learning. The company has announced ₹85 crore in support for AI for Education Innovation in partnership with Google.org and Wadhwani AI. The initiative aims to promote AI-based features across digital platforms such as SWAYAM, POSHAN Tracker, state-level learning management systems and the national skilling portal.
Google has also launched the Google AI Educator Series to improve AI literacy among teachers in India. Under the initiative, teachers from schools and higher education institutions are being trained on the responsible use of AI and ways to improve learning experiences.
According to the company, efforts are also underway to extend this training to teachers in Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Ladakh and Punjab. In the initial phase, the training is planned to be made available in languages including Assamese, Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, Odia and Punjabi. The objective is to prepare teachers for the effective and responsible use of AI tools in classrooms.
New Personalised Learning Opportunities for Students
Google is also expanding the use of AI in higher education and competitive exam preparation. According to the company, features such as self-study tools and JEE Main practice tests have been made available to students in India through Gemini. These features aim to help students prepare according to their individual needs and learning pace.
In addition, Google has shared details about its work with Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, on an AI-based state university model. The initiative involves working on features such as personalised AI tutors and skill-gap analysis for students through Google Cloud and Gemini. Such a model aims to connect students’ learning with future skill and employment requirements.
Responsible Use of AI is Also Important
AI can create new opportunities in education and research, but the challenges associated with its use also need to be addressed. Google has highlighted issues such as academic integrity, equal access and the responsible use of AI as important considerations.
According to Sundar Pichai, the benefits of AI will not automatically reach all people and communities. Collaboration among governments, educational institutions, teachers, students and technology companies will be necessary to ensure wider benefits. Going forward, the use of AI in education may extend beyond digital tools to areas such as personalised learning, teacher training, skill development and research.
