India electric vehicle (EV) retail sales reached a record high in July 2026, with 327,901 units sold across the country, according to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA). The figure represents a 66.2% year-on-year increase compared to 197,298 units sold in July 2025. As a result, EVs accounted for nearly one in every eight vehicles retailed in the country during the month.
According to FADA, the strong performance was driven primarily by the electric two-wheeler segment, while electric three-wheelers continued to dominate their category with over 65% market share. Passenger EVs and electric commercial vehicles also posted robust growth, although supply constraints for popular passenger EV models continue to limit demand.
FADA Vice President Sai Giridhar described July 2026 as a landmark month for India EV industry, noting that EV retail sales crossed 327,000 units for the first time. He said electric two-wheelers surpassed the 200,000-unit milestone, while electric three-wheelers have effectively become the mainstream choice in their segment. He also urged OEMs to improve vehicle availability ahead of the festive season.
Electric Two-Wheelers (E2W)
Electric two-wheeler retail sales surged 88.3% year-on-year to 204,362 units, compared to 108,516 units in July 2025. EV penetration in the segment increased to 11.2%, up from 7.7% a year earlier.
TVS Motor retained the top position with 55,499 units, followed by Bajaj Auto with 45,613 units, Ather Energy with 30,357 units, Hero MotoCorp with 22,900 units, and Ola Electric with 14,106 units.
Electric Three-Wheelers (E3W)
Electric three-wheeler retail sales rose 25.3% year-on-year to 87,055 units, taking EV penetration in the segment to 65.1%, up from 60.3% in July 2025.
Mahindra Group led the segment with 14,191 units, narrowly ahead of Bajaj Auto at 13,442 units. TVS Motor, YC Electric Vehicle, and Dilli Electric Auto completed the top five.
Passenger Electric Vehicles (PV EV)
Passenger EV retail sales increased 83.1% year-on-year to 32,928 units, compared with 17,981 units a year earlier. However, sales declined 1.8% compared to June 2026. EV penetration in the passenger vehicle segment remained at 7.9%.
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles maintained its leadership with 13,678 units, followed by Mahindra & Mahindra with 7,742 units and JSW MG Motor India with 5,689 units. Maruti Suzuki, VinFast, BYD, and Hyundai were also among the leading manufacturers.
Electric Commercial Vehicles (ECV)
Electric commercial vehicle retail sales recorded the fastest growth, rising 168.6% year-on-year to 3,556 units, compared with 1,324 units in July 2025. EV penetration in the segment improved to 3.57%.
Tata Motors led the category with 1,306 units, followed by Euler Motors with 777 units and Mahindra Group with 362 units. Switch Mobility, Olectra Greentech, and Tivolt Electric Vehicles also reported strong sales during the month.
According to FADA, the July 2026 figures highlight the accelerating adoption of electric mobility across all vehicle segments in India. While electric two-wheelers contributed the highest sales volumes, electric three-wheelers continued to record the highest level of electrification, reflecting the country rapidly expanding EV ecosystem.
