The new facility is India first dedicated e-compressor manufacturing unit, with an annual production capacity of over 300,000 units.

MAHLE has started commercial production of electric compressors (e-compressors) at its manufacturing facility in Coimbatore. The company has invested €7 million, approximately ₹65 crore, in the project. The facility marks MAHLE first dedicated e-compressor manufacturing facility in India.

E-compressors play a key role in the thermal management systems of electric vehicles. They help cool the vehicle cabin and maintain battery temperatures within the required range. This directly impacts an EV charging performance, driving range and battery cell life.

The new assembly line has an annual production capacity of more than 300,000 units at peak utilisation. According to the company, the e-compressors manufactured at the facility will cater to the requirements of domestic original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) as well as international export markets.

Ivan Lenehan, Vice President, MAHLE Powertrain and Charging for India, China and East Asia, said India is playing an increasingly important role in the global mobility transformation. He added that the new facility will strengthen MAHLE presence in India's growing automotive market and reinforce its commitment to sustainable mobility solutions.

Milind Mhaiskar, Managing Director, MAHLE Electric Drives India, said the production facility highlights the company's focus on localisation and customer-centric innovation. He added that the project's success reflects the efforts of MAHLE teams and its collaborative approach with business partners.

With the new facility, MAHLE is strengthening its EV component manufacturing and localisation footprint in India. Local production of e-compressors is expected to support the country growing electric vehicle market while also contributing to the company global supply requirements.
