Maruti Suzuki to Launch First Electric SUV e-Vitara on December 2
Maruti Suzuki is set to enter India’s electric mobility segment with the launch of its first-ever electric SUV, e-Vitara, on December 2, 2025 — marking a new era for the country’s largest automaker.

Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest carmaker, is all set to make its much-awaited entry into the electric vehicle market. The company will launch its first electric SUV, the e-Vitara, on December 2, 2025. First showcased at the Bharat Mobility Auto Expo 2025, the e-Vitara marks a milestone for Maruti Suzuki as it embarks on its journey toward sustainable mobility.

The e-Vitara has already made headlines globally. On August 26, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur plant in Gujarat, where localized production of hybrid battery electrodes began — a crucial step for EV manufacturing. During the same event, he also flagged off exports of the e-Vitara, positioning India as an emerging global hub for EV exports.

Maruti Suzuki began exporting the e-Vitara on September 1, with over 2,900 units shipped in August to 12 European countries including the UK, Germany, Norway, France, Denmark, Switzerland, Netherlands, Sweden, Hungary, Iceland, Austria, and Belgium. This strong international demand highlights India’s growing presence in the global EV market.

In terms of design and performance, the e-Vitara is a compact electric SUV measuring 4,275mm in length, 1,800mm in width, and 1,640mm in height, with a 2,700mm wheelbase. It features a 3-in-1 electric drive system integrating the motor, inverter, and transmission to reduce weight and improve efficiency. The SUV will come with two battery options — a 49kWh version (144hp) and a 61kWh version (174hp), with the latter also offering an AWD variant featuring a rear motor for a combined output of 184hp and 300Nm. The top variant promises a range of over 500km per charge, making it one of the longest-range EVs in its segment.

Inside, the e-Vitara boasts a premium, tech-forward cabin featuring a 10.25-inch digital driver display and a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen. Other highlights include ventilated front seats, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, split rear seats, dual-tone soft-touch surfaces, ambient lighting, and a Harman audio system.

Safety is another strong focus area- the SUV’s structure uses over 50% high-tensile steel and comes equipped with seven airbags, all-disc brakes, a tyre pressure monitoring system, e-Call emergency function, and Level 2 ADAS featuring adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and automatic emergency braking.

To support EV adoption, Maruti Suzuki is also developing a robust EV ecosystem. Each e-Vitara will come with a smart home charger and installation support. The company plans to set up public fast-charging stations in 100 Indian cities within the next 2–3 years, ensuring charging points every 5–10 kilometres, and will establish 1,500 EV-ready workshops across 1,000+ cities to provide seamless service and maintenance support nationwide.
