Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has highlighted Hero MotoCorp’s electric mobility innovation Surge S32, describing it as a forward-looking step that showcases India’s engineering capabilities on a global platform.
In a LinkedIn post, Gadkari noted that the Surge S32 is the world’s first category-swapping vehicle, capable of transforming between a two-wheeler and a three-wheeler based on operational requirements. He also stated that with the handover of the Type Approval Certificate, the Surge becomes the first vehicle approved under India’s newly introduced L2-5 category, marking a significant regulatory milestone.
The vehicle features a modular design, combining an electric scooter with a rear three-wheeler module. The scooter can function as the front unit of the three-wheeler when docked, while remaining fully operable as an independent two-wheeler. The company claims the conversion takes approximately three minutes, allowing users to switch seamlessly between personal and commercial mobility formats.
Gadkari emphasized that such modular vehicle innovations have the potential to reshape future mobility solutions while enhancing economic utility for users.
