Amazon India has announced plans to deploy around 1,000 electric trucks in partnership with VE Commercial Vehicles to support the expansion of its quick commerce service, Amazon Now, across India.
The fleet will consist of custom-built Eicher Pro-X electric trucks designed specifically for high-frequency intra-city logistics operations. These vehicles will transport goods between Amazon’s large fulfilment hubs located on city outskirts and micro-fulfilment centres positioned closer to customers.
The company said around 50 electric trucks have already been deployed, with plans to scale the fleet to more than 1,000 units by 2028. The trucks are expected to operate daily routes of 100–180 km and support multiple trips with a fast-charging time of approximately 50 minutes. Initial deployments will begin in Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, and Mumbai.
The move comes as Amazon accelerates the expansion of Amazon Now. The company recently announced plans to extend the service to 100 cities across India and establish more than 1,000 micro-fulfilment centres. Cities identified for expansion include Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Jaipur, Lucknow, Kochi, Mangalore, and Visakhapatnam.
Abhinav Singh said Amazon India currently operates more than 12,000 electric vehicles across the country and continues to integrate electric mobility into its logistics network.
VE Commercial Vehicles stated that the Eicher Pro-X electric trucks were co-developed with Amazon specifically for e-commerce and quick commerce applications. The two companies have been collaborating since 2022 to develop electric truck solutions tailored to Indian logistics requirements.
Amazon also noted that during 2025 it deployed more than 100 electric trucks with multiple OEMs across cities including Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Kolkata as part of its broader transportation decarbonisation strategy.
