Automotive component manufacturer Uno Minda Limited has announced plans to establish a new greenfield manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, for high-voltage electric powertrain products catering to four-wheeler passenger vehicles. The facility will be set up through its subsidiary Uno Minda Auto Innovations Private Limited and will manufacture and assemble Electric Drive Units (EDUs) and Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) systems.
The company stated that the expansion is being undertaken in response to fresh orders received from a key anchor customer. Around 550 crore will be invested in the project through a mix of debt and equity financing. The capital expenditure will be implemented in phases over the next two years, with commissioning of the plant targeted for the second quarter of FY28.
This will be the second EV powertrain facility announced by Uno Minda Auto Innovations in recent months. The company is also setting up another manufacturing unit at Khed City in Pune, Maharashtra, which is expected to commence operations in the second half of FY27.
According to the company, the expansion is aimed at meeting the growing demand for advanced electrified powertrains across Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs), Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs), and Range-Extended Electric Vehicles (REEVs).
Commenting on the development, Ravi Mehra, Managing Director of Uno Minda Limited, said the company is expanding its manufacturing capabilities and product portfolio in EV powertrain technologies while strengthening the localisation of high-voltage systems in India.
