The minister said that the government is working rapidly to make school education more digital and modern. As part of this effort, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Computational Thinking (CT) are being integrated into the curriculum to help students understand emerging technologies.
To build awareness and essential skills among students from Classes 6 to 12, AI is being introduced as a part of education. At the same time, emphasis is also being placed on training teachers in AI so they can effectively teach these new technologies.
AI and emerging technologies have also been included in NCERT textbooks. The main aim is to build foundational skills and AI literacy among both students and teachers.
The government is set to introduce a dedicated course on Computational Thinking and AI for Classes 3 to 8 starting from the academic year 2026-27. This course will be supported by digital platforms such as DIKSHA, SWAYAM and PM eVidya, further strengthening digital education and innovation in schools.
The Education Minister also highlighted that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 places strong emphasis on the importance of AI in education. Students will now be introduced to basic AI concepts from Class 3, preparing them for the future technological world.
He also clarified that education is a shared responsibility of both the central and state governments and all stakeholders are working.
