ClassLink Insights: Helping Schools Understand the Relationship Between Digital Learning & Student Academic Performance
The new Learning Analytics tool combines digital resource usage data with student Assessment Results to help schools make decisions related to teaching, technology investments and teacher training.

Amid the growing use of EdTech, schools face the challenge of understanding how digital learning resources influence students’ academic performance. Addressing this challenge, education technology company ClassLink has launched ClassLink Insights. The Learning Analytics tool helps schools analyse the relationship between the use of digital resources and students’ Assessment Results.

According to the company, schools typically use Usage Reports to track how frequently students access digital learning apps and resources, while Assessments provide insights into their scores and academic progress. ClassLink Insights brings these two types of data together, enabling school leaders to make academic and investment-related decisions based on evidence from their own institutions.

Analysing EdTech Usage and Student Outcomes

ClassLink Insights allows schools to conduct analyses according to their requirements. The tool uses existing App Usage Data and Assessment Results to help schools understand which digital resources are being used regularly and whether their usage is associated with better academic progress.

According to the company, Insights reports will include several key indicators, including weekly usage levels associated with estimated score gains. Schools will also be able to examine how many students use a particular resource, how consistently they use it, and how usage patterns vary across schools, grades and classes.

However, an observed relationship between app usage and improved scores does not, by itself, establish that the app caused students’ results to improve. Understanding such findings also requires consideration of factors such as teaching methods, access to resources and how effectively the technology is implemented.

Helping Schools Understand Outcomes Across Student Groups

ClassLink Insights also enables schools to analyse results across different student groups. According to the company, the tool uses demographic data from ClassLink Roster Server to help schools understand academic outcomes among English learners, students with disabilities and economically disadvantaged students.

According to Mary Batiwalla, AVP of Product Management at ClassLink, if digital resource usage is associated with stronger academic growth in one student group but not another, schools should investigate the reasons behind these differences. Factors such as access to resources, instructional practices and the way technology is implemented may play an important role.

Available for Schools at $2 Per User Annually

According to ClassLink, Insights is now available at a price of $2 per user per year. Schools and educational institutions can visit classlink.com/insights to request a demo or quotation.

The company has also announced one-hour webinars led by Mary Batiwalla on October 14 and October 20. Using sample data, the sessions will demonstrate how schools can analyse the relationship between app usage and student academic growth.

Overall, ClassLink Insights provides schools with a way to examine EdTech usage data alongside academic outcomes. Its practical value will depend on how schools use these insights to improve teaching, make better resource selection decisions and understand students’ learning needs.
