Dharmendra Pradhan addressed the closing session of the webinar, where extensive discussions were held on the education reforms announced in the Union Budget and the ways to implement them effectively. The inaugural session of the programme was addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who emphasised the need to implement the budget announcements swiftly at the ground level.
Focus on Inclusive and Accessible Education
While addressing the concluding session, Dharmendra Pradhan said that the large participation of experts, academicians and stakeholders from various sectors reflects the spirit of participatory governance.
He noted that the National Education Policy 2020 aims to promote inclusive, accessible and quality education. He added that this year’s budget has given special priority to education, employment, entrepreneurship, innovation and research, which will create better opportunities for young people.
Strengthening the Link Between Education and Employment
The webinar highlighted the importance of aligning the education system with the needs of the future. Discussions focused on the following key areas:
- Developing future-ready curricula
- Strengthening innovation-driven ecosystems
- Expanding opportunities for skill development
- Strengthening the connection between education and employment
- Enhancing collaboration among industry, academia and the government
On the occasion, Union Minister for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal and Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Virendra Kumar, along with several senior officials and experts, were present.
Special Focus on Human Resource Development
During the sessions organised by the Ministry of Education, several important initiatives were discussed to strengthen human capital development. Key proposals included: National Telescope Scheme, Divyang Skill Development Scheme, Establishment of University Townships, Hostels for STEM institutions in every district A permanent committee to link education with employment and entrepreneurship and AVGC Content Creator Labs (for Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics) ect.
These initiatives aim to strengthen human resource development and promote inclusive growth.
Emphasis on Increasing Women’s Participation
The webinar also suggested establishing safe and accessible hostels in every district to increase women’s participation in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education.
There was also a strong emphasis on integrating education, industry and research through the University Township model, so that students can gain opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship alongside their studies.
Towards a Skills and Innovation-Based Economy
Experts at the webinar stressed the need to modernise curricula for AI-based jobs, strengthen industry academia partnerships and promote emerging sectors such as content creation and design. Discussions also covered skill development programmes for persons with disabilities, advanced telescope projects for astronomy and the development of modern research infrastructure.
The government believes that these initiatives will help align India’s education system with future requirements and create new opportunities for employment, innovation and entrepreneurship for young people. Experts also believe that if these proposals are implemented effectively, they will strengthen the entire ecosystem linking education with employment and help India move towards a knowledge-based economy.
