India and Finland have discussed expanding cooperation to strengthen skill development, vocational education, and the international mobility of a skilled workforce. In this regard, the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary held a bilateral meeting with Finland’s Minister of Employment Matias Marttinen.
During the meeting, discussions focused on building a future-ready talent ecosystem between the two countries and strengthening vocational education systems. Both sides also emphasized enhancing collaboration among institutions, industries and training systems to create better global opportunities for skilled youth.
India Emerging as a Global Skill Hub
During the meeting, Jayant Chaudhary stated that under the Prime Minister’s vision, India is rapidly moving toward becoming a global skill capital. He noted that India has one of the world’s youngest and most dynamic workforces, supported by a rapidly expanding skill development ecosystem. This positions India strongly to contribute skilled talent to global industries.
He further added that India’s demographic strength and Finland’s technological and vocational excellence together create a strong and natural partnership in the skills sector.
Appreciation for Indian Professionals
Finland’s Minister of Employment, Matias Marttinen, described the growing partnership with India as significant. He appreciated the contribution of Indian professionals working across various sectors, noting that they are playing an important role in strengthening Finland’s workforce. He also said that closer collaboration between institutions and industries could promote innovation, skill development, and sustainable economic growth.

During the discussion, both sides identified potential areas for cooperation, particularly in sectors such as healthcare, construction, green technology and advanced manufacturing. Both countries emphasized that while providing global opportunities to skilled professionals, it is equally important to maintain high standards of training, certification and worker welfare.

Both countries also agreed to strengthen partnerships between vocational education and training institutions, promote knowledge exchange and encourage industry-led skill development initiatives. Discussions also included trainer capacity building, integration of language training to support international mobility and developing pathways that allow learners to obtain academic qualifications alongside vocational training.
