Electric bus platform GreenCell Mobility has announced the deployment of 75 electric buses in Puducherry, supporting the Union Territory’s transition toward zero-emission public transportation. The initiative was highlighted at a recent event led by Narendra Modi, marking a key milestone in the region’s clean mobility efforts.
Under the project, the company will deploy 25 nine-metre and 50 twelve-metre air-conditioned electric city buses designed for urban and trunk route operations. The buses, supplied in partnership with EKA Mobility, will operate from the Mettupalayam Bus Depot, improving last-mile connectivity and enhancing the reliability and efficiency of public transport services. Each bus is equipped with advanced features such as an Integrated Transport Management System (ITMS), passenger information systems, real-time vehicle tracking, surveillance cameras and accessibility infrastructure.
Commenting on the development, Managing Director and CEO Devndra Chawla said the deployment reinforces the company’s commitment to building sustainable public transport ecosystems across emerging urban centres in India.
Backed by Eversource Capital, GreenCell Mobility currently operates more than 1,200 electric buses nationwide and continues to expand its footprint through large-scale projects across multiple states. The company also operates intercity electric buses for Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation and runs premium electric coach services through its intercity brand NueGo, connecting over 100 locations across India.
The deployment is expected to significantly reduce tailpipe emissions while strengthening technology-driven, sustainable public mobility infrastructure in the region.
