Icertis, the contract management software provider, has announced the passing of Samir Bodas, co-founder, long-time Chief Executive Officer and Executive Chairman, following a battle with cancer.

“This is a loss felt by many and our thoughts are with Samir’s family, friends and all those who had the privilege of knowing him personally,” said the company in a statement.

Anand Subbaraman, CEO of Icertis, said “Samir was a pioneer in every sense of the word. His foresight and leadership set the bar for the company that Icertis is today. His belief in Icertis, its mission, its people and its potential was unwavering. As we grieve his loss, we will continue forward guided by the principles he instilled and with a profound sense of responsibility to honor his legacy.”

Monish Darda, co-founder and CTO of Icertis, “Samir had a rare ability to inspire others with his vibrant spirit and to lead with undeniable conviction. He challenged all of us to think bigger, act with integrity and to create a consequential and enduring company. The company we are today is a testament to his vision, and his lasting influence will never be forgotten.”

Samir was born in Pune, India and arrived in the US in 1982 to pursue an undergraduate education at the University of Texas at Austin. He started his career as a software programmer at National Instruments. He graduated from Wharton Business School and joined Microsoft in 1992, where he held a variety of sales and marketing roles.

Through the early 2000s, Samir pursued entrepreneurship through ventures like iMandi, Jamcracker, Disha Technology, and Aztecsoft. In 2009, he met Monish Darda and together launched Icertis at the cusp of the cloud computing wave.

The company said that Samir went on to grow the company into the undisputed leader in contract intelligence. “He illuminated the role that contracts play in the enterprise, establishing contract intelligence as a critical system of record trusted by more than one-third of the Fortune 100.”
