Tech-enabled electric mobility and rental platform Bijliride has launched its Student Mobility Program under the flagship 'Project Udaan' initiative. The program is designed to provide affordable, flexible and zero-commitment electric two-wheeler rentals to students pursuing higher education across major Indian cities.
According to the company, the initiative aims to address daily commuting challenges while helping students become financially independent by improving access to affordable transportation.
Industry reports indicate that more than 450,000 students in India are engaged in part-time work to meet expenses such as rent, tuition fees and daily travel. Nearly 48% of these jobs require physical presence, making reliable and affordable mobility essential.
To address this challenge, Bijliride has integrated micro-gig opportunities into its digital platform. Under the program, students can complete optional delivery assignments for as little as one hour a day to offset their daily EV rental costs. The company says the initiative also helps reduce the social stigma associated with gig work while providing students with a dignified way to earn additional income.
Commenting on the launch, Shivam Sisodiya, Founder and CEO of Bijliride, said the company's vision is to ensure that transportation never becomes a barrier to education, career opportunities or personal growth. He added that Gen Z consumers increasingly prefer affordable and flexible mobility solutions over vehicle ownership, and the company's EV rental and micro-earning model combines affordability, convenience and sustainability.
Since the launch of the program, Bijliride has reported a steady increase in student registrations and inquiries across Hyderabad, Pune, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Delhi-NCR. Students are using the electric two-wheelers not only for commuting to campuses but also for attending internships, skill development programmes, placement drives and examinations.
The company believes the initiative will promote cleaner mobility on educational campuses while accelerating EV adoption among young consumers and supporting a more sustainable urban transport ecosystem.
