India EV Retail Sales Hit Record High in June 2026
India EV retail market reached an all-time high in June 2026, with sales crossing 306,000 units and EV penetration surpassing 12% for the first time.

India's electric vehicle (EV) retail market recorded its strongest-ever monthly performance in June 2026, with total retail sales reaching 306,220 units, according to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA). The figure marks a 62.7% year-on-year increase compared to 188,773 units sold in June 2025.

FADA President C. S. Vigneshwar described June 2026 as a landmark month for India's electric mobility journey, noting that EVs accounted for more than 12% of the country's total retail automobile market for the first time. The milestone reflects growing consumer acceptance of electric vehicles across all major segments.

Electric two-wheelers continued to drive the market, with retail sales rising to 193,735 units, up 13.5% over May and 75% compared to the same month last year. EV penetration in the two-wheeler segment increased to 10.6%, up from 9.3% in May and 7% in June 2025. TVS Motor led the segment with 47,064 units, followed by Bajaj Auto with 43,306 units and Ather Energy with 31,230 units. Hero MotoCorp posted strong year-on-year growth, while Ola Electric recorded a decline in retail volumes compared to last year.

The electric three-wheeler segment maintained the highest level of electrification, with 77,448 units sold during the month, representing a 7.8% month-on-month and 27.4% year-on-year increase. EV penetration in the segment stood at 64.1%. Mahindra Group emerged as the market leader with 12,838 units, followed closely by Bajaj Auto with 11,279 units, while TVS Motor sold 3,823 units.

Electric passenger vehicle sales also reached a new record, with 31,823 units retailed in June, reflecting a 19.3% increase over May and a 107.8% jump from the previous year. EV penetration in the passenger vehicle segment rose to 7.7%. Tata Motors retained its leadership with 12,187 units, followed by Mahindra & Mahindra with 7,766 units, JSW MG Motor India with 5,861 units, Maruti Suzuki with 1,919 units, and VinFast with 1,404 units.

The electric commercial vehicle segment also posted its highest-ever monthly sales, with 3,214 units sold in June. This represents a 33.9% increase over May and a 163.7% year-on-year rise, taking EV penetration in the segment to 3.53%. Tata Motors led the category with 1,114 units, followed by Euler Motors with 700 units and Mahindra Group with 315 units.

According to FADA, the June 2026 performance demonstrates that EV adoption in India is accelerating across all major vehicle categories rather than being driven by a single segment. The association added that both established automakers and emerging EV manufacturers are contributing to the country's transition toward electric mobility, further strengthening India's rapidly expanding EV ecosystem.
