Under the new scheme, girls will receive financial assistance of ₹56,000, which, along with accumulated interest, will amount to nearly ₹1 lakh.
Major Benefit for Students After Graduation
One of the key highlights of this scheme is that girls will receive additional financial support after completing their graduation. Upon finishing their degree, they will be given a special amount of ₹20,000 to help them pursue higher studies, prepare for competitive exams or begin their careers with confidence. The government’s objective is not only to provide financial assistance but also to encourage higher education among girls and make them self-reliant.
The scheme was approved in a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The ‘Ladli Beti’ scheme, which has been in operation since 2008, will now continue under a new name with enhanced financial benefits.
This decision is expected to directly benefit lakhs of girls in Delhi. Earlier, under the Ladli scheme, girls received ₹36,000, but the amount has now been increased to ₹56,000. With interest added at different stages, the total financial support will reach approximately ₹1 lakh.
Budget of ₹160 Crore
The Delhi government will spend ₹160 crore on this scheme. Two daughters from one family will be eligible to avail its benefits. The government believes this will promote a positive mindset toward girls and encourage families to invest more in their education and future.
Ladli Scheme Launched in 2008
The Ladli Beti scheme was originally launched in 2008 to support girls’ education and welfare. Considering rising needs and inflation over time, the government decided to revamp the scheme. The Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana is an extension of that vision, ensuring strong financial support for girls until they complete their education.
Increase in Girls’ Enrollment in Colleges
The government believes this scheme will prove to be a milestone for girls in Delhi. It is expected to increase the number of girls in schools and colleges and enable them to pursue their dreams with confidence. The Chief Minister assured that the Delhi government will continue to take such decisions to ensure the dignity, safety and bright future of girls.
