On Thursday, the Ministry organized a high-level meeting to implement the setting up of content creation labs across 15,000 schools and 500 colleges nationwide. The initiative aims to further boost India’s AVGC ecosystem.
The workshop, held at the National Media Centre in New Delhi, focused on implementing the initiative through the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT). The institute was approved by the Union Cabinet in September 2024 and is currently functioning from the NFDC premises.
‘Orange Economy Vision’ to Boost Growth and Employment
Addressing the meeting, Information and Broadcasting Secretary Sanjay Jaju said that IICT will serve as the nodal institution for the proposed labs. These labs are expected to become a significant source of talent for the institute. He noted that consultations have already been conducted regarding the labs’ design, hardware and software requirements and ensuring flexibility in implementation.
The initiative has been presented as a key component of the government’s ‘Orange Economy’ vision, which aims to promote growth and generate employment opportunities by leveraging India’s creative industries.
According to officials, the proposed labs will function as advanced creative studios. Students will gain hands-on experience with industry-standard tools and professional production processes. Discussions during the workshop also emphasized aligning lab activities with the National Education Policy (NEP) to ensure foundational knowledge along with specialized training in creative fields.
Encouraging Mentorship and Original IP Creation in Labs
Participants stressed the need to incorporate mentorship programs and focus on the creation of original intellectual property (IP) within the labs to enhance students’ global employability and promote creative entrepreneurship. They also highlighted the importance of coordination between central missions and state education departments to implement the initiative effectively across the country.
Officials expressed confidence that these labs will help bridge the gap between academic education and industry requirements, foster creative thinking, and prepare students for emerging roles in the technology-driven creative economy.
