According to PIB Delhi, Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan chaired a roundtable meeting on February 11, 2026, at IIT Delhi with the founders of 10 new-age Indian startups developing AI-based education solutions. Minister of State for Education and Development of the North Eastern Region Shri Sukanta Majumdar and Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Shri Jayant Chaudhary were also present at the meeting.
Special attention was given to students from underserved and disadvantaged regions during the programme
The meeting brought together policymakers, academicians, and technology entrepreneurs. Discussions focused on how AI can be used to improve India’s education system in line with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The programme is part of the Ministry of Education’s broader initiatives to promote AI. Startups developing AI-based solutions for K-12 education, exam preparation, skill development, language learning, and vocational education were showcased. Particular emphasis was placed on solutions aimed at supporting students in underserved areas. Participating startups included Arivihan, Fermi AI, Khare.ai, Seekho, SpeakX, SuperKalam, Supernova, Vedantu, ConveGenius and Virohan.
This discussion was organised as a precursor to the upcoming India AI Impact Summit. Insights from the roundtable will contribute to policy and ecosystem discussions at the summit, focusing on the responsible adoption of AI, safeguards and expanding its impact across sectors, including education.
Following this meeting, the two-day Bharat Bodhan AI Conference is being held from today until February 13 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Senior policymakers from the central and state governments, researchers, academic institutions, and industry leaders will participate. They will deliberate on the strategic role of AI in transforming India’s education system with a focus on innovation, large-scale adoption and national capacity building.
Shri Dharmendra Pradhan expressed happiness over engaging with indigenous startup founders who are developing AI-driven solutions from India for the world, particularly to transform and redefine the education landscape. He also expressed satisfaction in learning that most of the founders come from middle-class backgrounds and Tier-II and Tier-III cities. He said their innovative thinking and understanding of integrating AI into education inspire confidence. The Minister emphasised that technology is a powerful tool for empowerment and inclusion, capable of bridging the gap between hope and opportunity. He highlighted the central role of AI in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat @ 2047.
He encouraged startups to develop creative solutions aligned with Indian values, languages, and needs, while ensuring global relevance. He assured them of full support in leveraging AI’s transformative power to address national education and skill development priorities and to strengthen India’s digital capabilities.
Long-term investor in India’s digital ecosystem, Shri Ashutosh Sharma, emphasised the importance of viewing education technology not merely as a short-term business opportunity but as a national capability. He stated that technology is the only practical and scalable solution to bridge India’s education gap and that AI represents a historic turning point, enabling access to quality education for every learner regardless of geography or income.
Several senior officials and key stakeholders attended the meeting, including Secretary of the Department of School Education and Literacy Shri Sanjay Kumar; Secretary of the Department of Higher Education Dr. Vineet Joshi; Director of IIT Delhi Shri Rangan Banerjee; Director of IIT Madras Prof. V. Kamakoti; along with representatives from other major institutions. Senior officials from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship were also present at the event.
