Centre Announces Major Reform Initiative to Make India’s Examination System More Transparent and Secure Following the NEET Controversy

The Central Government has taken a significant step towards making India’s examination system more transparent, secure and trustworthy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that a High-Powered Task Force will be constituted under the leadership of Infosys Co-founder and technology expert Nandan Nilekani to drive comprehensive examination reforms. The task force will recommend measures to strengthen the examination system and develop a technology-driven, secure and transparent framework. The decision comes in the wake of the NEET-UG paper leak controversy with the aim of restoring students’ confidence and preventing such irregularities in the future.

In a video message shared on social media on Sunday, Prime Minister Modi said that the government is continuously taking concrete steps to safeguard the future of students. He emphasized that strict action is being taken against those involved in examination malpractices. “Those who played with the future of students are in jail. We have already established fast-track courts and are moving towards introducing stricter legal provisions through Parliament. At the same time, we must strengthen the examination system for the future,” he said.

Technology-Driven and Trustworthy Examination System

The Prime Minister further stated that the government aims to build an examination system that is transparent, reliable, and technology-driven. According to him, “Technology should be used to the maximum extent in our examination system. Keeping this in mind, we have decided to constitute a High-Powered Task Force under the leadership of Nandan Nilekani. The task force will focus on examination reforms and based on its recommendations, necessary steps will be taken to ensure the credibility of upcoming examinations at the earliest.”

The government has entrusted this important responsibility to Nandan Nilekani, who played a key role in leading India’s Aadhaar digital identity programme. Considering his extensive experience in digital governance and large-scale technology initiatives, he has been appointed to chair the task force. The government believes that under his leadership, India’s examination system can become more secure, transparent and technology-enabled.

Expert Panel to Drive Examination Reforms

The High-Powered Task Force will comprise experts from the fields of education, technology, logistics, security and space technology. The panel will examine every stage of the examination process, including question paper preparation, secure distribution, digital monitoring, examination conduct, evaluation and result processing. Its objective is to design a foolproof, digital and technologically secure examination framework that can effectively prevent paper leaks, cheating and other irregularities in the future.

Restoring Students’ Trust is the Government’s Priority

The government has stated that maintaining the integrity of national examinations is directly linked to the future of millions of students. Therefore, the proposed reforms will not be limited to technological improvements alone but will also focus on transparency, accountability, security and good governance. Experts believe that if the recommendations of the task force are implemented effectively, India’s examination system will become more credible, secure and future-ready, while also restoring the confidence of students and parents.
