Scholarship support from pre-matric to higher education; Government aims to promote quality education for economically weaker and socially disadvantaged students.

The Government of India has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening educational opportunities for students belonging to the Other Backward Classes (OBC), Economically Backward Classes (EBC) and Denotified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes (DNT). Through the PM-YASASVI (Prime Minister Young Achievers Scholarship Award Scheme for Vibrant India) umbrella scheme, the government is providing scholarships and financial assistance to eligible students from these communities, enabling them to pursue education from the school level to higher education.

The information was shared by Shri B. L. Verma, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, in a written reply to Lok Sabha MP Shri Kamakhya Prasad Tasa. He stated that the scheme aims to reduce financial barriers and ensure inclusive, equitable and quality education for OBC, EBC and DNT students so that financial constraints do not hinder their academic journey.

Four Scholarship Components to Support Students at Every Stage

The minister informed the House that the PM-YASASVI umbrella scheme comprises four major scholarship components designed to support students at different stages of education. These include the Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme, Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme, Top Class Education in Schools Scheme and Top Class Education in Colleges Scheme. These initiatives are available to eligible students from the OBC, EBC and DNT communities.

According to the written reply, the primary objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to eligible students, enabling them to complete their school and higher education without financial hardship. The scheme is expected to reduce dropout rates, encourage continuity in education and create better academic opportunities for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Promoting Inclusive and Equitable Education

The government said that the PM-YASASVI Scheme is an important initiative to bring socially and educationally disadvantaged students into the mainstream education system. Besides improving access to quality education, the scheme seeks to provide equal learning opportunities and empower students to become self-reliant and capable contributors to society.

According to the government, scholarship-based initiatives like PM-YASASVI play a crucial role in promoting educational equity while preparing India's youth for a brighter future. The scheme is designed to ensure that economically weaker and socially disadvantaged students receive the support they need at every stage of their educational journey.

Helping Students Continue Their Education with Confidence

The objective of the PM-YASASVI Scheme extends beyond providing scholarships. It aims to encourage students from economically weaker and socially disadvantaged communities to continue their education and build a better future. By reducing financial burdens, the scheme enables students to pursue higher education, access quality institutions and complete their studies without interruption.

The government believes that such scholarship initiatives will help create a skilled, self-reliant and empowered generation while ensuring equal educational opportunities for all.
