Electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure company ThunderPlus has installed a public EV charging station at AIG Hospital in Gachibowli, Hyderabad. According to the company, the initiative is an important step towards integrating EV charging infrastructure within healthcare campuses. The facility will be accessible to doctors, nurses, hospital staff, patients, visitors and EV users from the surrounding areas.
The charging facility features a 60 kW DC fast charger and a 7.4 kW AC charger. The DC fast charger can provide charging in approximately 30–45 minutes, while the AC charger is suited for users who require longer-duration charging while their vehicles are parked.
The charging station is open to doctors, nurses, hospital staff, visitors and the general public. According to ThunderPlus, providing EV charging at locations such as hospitals can improve access to charging infrastructure at places where people typically spend extended periods.
Raj Kumar Medimi, Director, ThunderPlus, said hospitals are among the most essential and frequently visited locations in cities, with doctors, medical staff, patients and visitors spending considerable time on hospital campuses. He added that integrating EV charging at such locations can address both mobility and convenience needs while making healthcare campuses an important part of the EV charging ecosystem.
The initiative also highlights the growing connection between sustainable mobility and healthcare infrastructure. Hospitals and healthcare campuses are high-footfall locations, making them suitable sites for expanding access to EV charging and supporting the adoption of cleaner transportation.
For healthcare professionals and hospital staff working long shifts, on-site charging can offer additional convenience by allowing them to charge their vehicles during working hours. For visitors and other EV users, the facility adds another charging point to Hyderabad’s expanding EV ecosystem.
ThunderPlus said the installation is part of its broader strategy to expand EV charging infrastructure across every day-use locations. The company is also focusing on locations such as workplaces, retail spaces, highways and other public facilities to make EV charging more accessible and convenient for users.
