Major Announcement for Education in Budget 2026-27:
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in Parliament on Sunday that five university townships will be developed in different parts of the country. These townships will be established near major industrial and logistics corridors, directly benefiting the students studying there. The aim of this initiative is to connect education with industry and employment.

The government stated that both the central and state governments will work together to develop these university townships. States will be assisted in building universities, developing infrastructure and providing necessary facilities. The objective is to create strong and modern educational institutions according to the needs of each region.

These townships will provide all modern facilities for students. Large residential complexes will be built so that students coming from other cities do not face any problems with accommodation.

Skill Training Facility in New University Townships

The Finance Minister said that skill centers will be established in these universities, where students will receive both academic education and practical training. In addition, the townships will have high-tech labs, modern colleges, research centers and innovation hubs. Students and researchers will have access to advanced technology and better facilities, which will promote research, startups and new ideas.

The government’s focus will not be limited to awarding degrees but will also be on making students industry-ready. These five university townships will not only improve the quality of education but also create new local employment opportunities. This will boost economic activities in the surrounding areas and provide youth with opportunities to grow in their own regions.

The Finance Minister also announced that a new National Institute of Design (NID) will be established in eastern India. The objective is to promote design education, creative thinking and innovation in the region.

World-Class Design Education with NID

So far, major design institutes were limited to only a few parts of the country, forcing students from eastern India to either move elsewhere or miss good opportunities. The new NID will provide students with world-class design education in their own region.

This institute will offer courses in product design, fashion design, graphic design, industrial design and digital design. Graduates from here will be ready not only for jobs but also to start their own startups and develop new products.

The government believes that design is no longer limited to art but has become an important part of initiatives like “Make in India,” “Startup India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat.” Good design increases the global appeal of Indian products. The new NID will play a major role in this direction.

According to experts, the new NID will also boost industrial and economic development in eastern India. Local industries will get better design support, new employment opportunities will be created and regional imbalances will be reduced.

Educators believe that establishing NID in eastern India is an important step to promote the creative industry, provide new opportunities for youth and support balanced development of the country.
