The Kerala government is launching a new digital portal called ‘Scholar Connect’ to link the state’s higher education institutions with scholars from the US, UK and Japan. The Chief Minister will inaugurate this digital platform on February 11.

Kerala Higher Education:
To strengthen collaboration between Kerala’s higher education institutions and the state’s scholars working around the world a new digital platform is being launched. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the platform on February 11. Named ‘Scholar Connect’, the portal has been developed by the Kerala State Council of Higher Education (KSHED). According to officials, its purpose is to facilitate easy and systematic communication between educational institutions and experts.

Scholar Connect’ Launch Provides a New Platform for Educational Collaboration

Education experts say Kerala is the first state in India to launch a dedicated digital platform to connect teachers and experts. This platform will offer students and institutions opportunities such as academic guidance, guest lectures, visiting professors, curriculum enhancement and collaborative research. It will support both online and offline engagement, ensuring continuous educational collaboration despite physical distances.

Global Academic Engagement and Virtual Mentorship

Key Features:

- Scholars from several countries, including the US, UK, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, the Netherlands, Ireland, UAE, South Africa, Hong Kong, Germany and Sweden, have already registered on the platform.

- With participation from scholars across various countries, the portal is attracting significant global interest.

- A major feature of the portal is its virtual mentorship module. Through this, teachers in Kerala can share their academic and research requirements, including curriculum enhancements, research methodologies, grant-writing assistance and course development.

- Overseas scholars can respond to these needs based on their expertise and availability. This will provide necessary support and help achieve better educational outcomes.

A Digital Platform for Global Education Collaboration

The platform will operate under the guidance of an international advisory board comprising renowned educators from the US, UK, Singapore, Canada, Australia, and France. Additionally, an administrative advisory board will be established in Kerala to ensure all work aligns with the state’s education policies.

Future Utility of ‘Scholar Connect’

‘Scholar Connect’ builds on the experience of KSHEC’s previous Brain Gain program and has been designed as a simple and scalable model for collaboration with academics and institutions worldwide. In the future, the platform aims to expand its features to include student exchange programs, joint and dual degree courses, credit transfers and international research partnerships.
