R. Ramanan is the former Mission Director of the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) and Additional Secretary at NITI Aayog, serving from June 2017 to May 2021. Under his leadership, AIM became a flagship national initiative to drive innovation and entrepreneurship across India. Prior to this, he was the MD & CEO of CMC Ltd (a TCS subsidiary), where he led the company through significant growth—achieving over 2100% increase in share price and 1338% rise in operating profits—culminating in its successful merger with TCS in 2015. An IIT Bombay alumnus and Harvard Business School AMP graduate, Ramanan also holds a sustainability leadership certification from Cambridge University and an honorary doctorate from Gujarat Law Society. Recognized among the ""100 Great Indian IITians"" in 2024 and recipient of IIT Bombay’s Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2023, he has received numerous accolades including the Outstanding National Public Service Award (Confederation of MSMEs), National Digitalist of the Year (SAP-MINT), and Asia's Outstanding CEO Award (CMO Asia). Currently, he serves on the Mission Governing Board of the India AI Mission, chairs the National Expert Advisory Council (NEAC) of the Department of Science & Technology, is a Lifetime Chair of HBS AMP187, Chair of New Zealand Trade & Enterprise Beachheads, and sits on the boards of eSamshiksa, Unnati, and the IIM Udaipur Incubation Centre. He has also held key positions with the Indo-US Technology Trade Forum, Tata Group Innovation Forum, and Tata IQ. "
